Here, you stand face to face with our virtual archaeologist, who takes you to the campsites of hunter-gatherers in Well-Aijen. With the free Archeo Route Limburg 2.0 app, you can explore the story of this place using modern technology, making it feel like you are stepping back into prehistory.
Well-Aijen is in the Maas Valley, an area now better protected from flooding thanks to the Maaswerken project. The high-water channel built here ensures safer water levels. For centuries, the Maas shaped the landscape and the lives of people and animals. In the Middle Stone Age, hunter-gatherers stayed here in summer and early autumn. Archaeologists found many traces, such as charred grain, pottery, and evidence of the first farms in the New Stone Age.
