Here, our virtual archaeologist tells you about the special campsites of hunter-gatherers in Well-Aijen. With the free Archeo Route Limburg 2.0 app, you can travel back in time and see how people lived here thousands of years ago.
The story takes place in the Maas Valley, an area now better protected from flooding thanks to the Maaswerken project. The high-water channel near Well-Aijen keeps the river safe and revealed a rich history. In the Middle Stone Age, hunter-gatherers stayed here in summer. Archaeologists found exciting traces, such as pottery for storing food and remains of the first houses from the New Stone Age.
This pop-up location gives you a taste of the Archeo Route Limburg — and invites you to visit the real archaeological sites yourself.
